Based and Empire-pilled. Here are a few more: I did state that I haven't read any of the older EU books about Han Solo before he would join the Rebellion. I do know that they do not cover his time in the academy or him meeting Chewbacca, because of an order by George Lucas. However, those three points I mentioned: 1) Being an Imperial cadet 2) Meeting Chewbacca 3) Winning the Millennium Falcon and becoming a smuggler were basically set as the most important backstory elements of him, even in the EU. We would see them be implemented in the movie, especially when you consider that they got Lawrence Kasdan, who was a writer in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He at least did his homework in getting these details down, and there are some references to those EU Han Solo books, like for example, the skull in the cover of Han Solo and the Lost Legacy comes out in the movie. Regarding Maul, that's your opinion, and I used to agree with it when they first brought him back, but then they actually developed Maul as a character and gave him a backstory. Before that he was nothing more than a silent horned guy who could wield a double lightsaber and look cool. Like I said, many of the things in the Clone Wars actually pay tribute and are inspired by the EU, so if anything I'm grateful Filoni was able to convince Lucas to actually have them on the show. Sure, both Clone Wars, Rebels, and other animated series are definitely for children and young teens, but there is definitely mature material that only older people would get. For instance, they actually made the clones into individuals with unique characteristics, ideas, goals, etc. Then there's episode arcs like Umbara, where the leading Jedi sends clones to die without caring about their lives, and he ends up manipulating two clone armies into fighting each other in the darkness until they discover he fell to the Dark Side. That's definitely not light kid friendly stuff. Let's not even get into other things like the slavery arcs where Anakin and his allies rescue slaves, and still many of them end up dying because of how cruel the slave owners are. Or when Ahsoka and other Jedi are getting hunted by Trandoshan hunters, even though they are still kids and young teens, and one of them dies in front of her. There are many other examples of more dark brutal and mature content. Rebels is more kid friendly, but even that has its moments like the Grand Inquisitor decapitating two Imperial officers by orders of Tarkin, and that inquisitor committing suicide rather than face Darth Vader. The Mandalorian is only that popular, and it's a good show in my opinion as well, because of how hungry Star Wars fans were for a good live action Star Wars media ever since the Sequels weren't so good. Plus with that Baby Yoda, it was obvious it would become the biggest thing since they showed off BB-8's design. I agree that George Lucas definitely takes higher priority compared to Disney. Filoni would be second for me since Lucas picked and mentored him, even considering him almost like a son and successor.
Yes, I remember how different the Clone Wars were before George Lucas made the Prequels. It was written more like an apocalyptic event where clones fought against everyone in the galaxy. The EU was quite loose in terms of canon and things like that, like you say. Only when something more official came out did somethings have to change, usually when it came from the movies or shows. There actually is a deleted scene in Solo that shows him flying a TIE Brute, but he disobeys an order to save a fellow pilot which gets him court martialed, which gets him kicked out of the Carida Academy (he mentions this in the movie) and demoted into the Imperial Army, which we see in the film. Plus the Mimban battle was awesome, and really showed how dark and gritty Star Wars battles can get. I really liked how inspired by World War I it was. Plus we got to see the Imperial Army troopers fighting alongside more elite Stormtroopers for the first time, which was nice. Their gas mask designs are really good also.

I don't mind the visual change of Kessel to a planet. This change happened in both the Clone Wars and Rebels which showed it more like a planetoid, but the mines still look similar to how they were depicted in the EU. The light things are a small complaint to be honest, they're like beacons to help navigate the Maw, so it's not too bad. That's not true about the Black Sun. If you watched Maul's story in the Clone Wars, he takes over the criminal underworld which includes many crime organizations and syndicates. These include the Pyke Syndicate, the Black Sun, Mandalorian Supercommandos, and the Crimson Dawn (which we see in the film). In the last season of the Clone Wars he orders them to go underground because he knows that Palpatine is about to establish the Empire and hunt the Jedi (and him). I agree that the last trilogy was not done well. Luke gave up and abandoned the Jedi. They also never showed all of the heroes of the last trilogy together, a wasted opportunity. I think they could have done something great for a Sequel trilogy, but they messed up many times by showing the heroes of the Original trilogy as failures and putting them in the background in terms of importance. When it was going bad, they decided to go back to follow the EU and ripped-off Dark Empire with Palpatine's return and it ended up even worse. I actually liked seeing Palpatine again (his actor is great), but his return came out of nowhere and it didn't make much sense. The end of Rebels is strange, but it made sense as the only way to "defeat" Thrawn. Thrawn cannot be beat in battle, and his only weakness is to things like the Force and traitors (like how he died in the EU). Filoni did confirm that him and the Jedi, Ezra, are both still alive that him and Zahn have plans for them. You do know that everything they did with Thrawn was done with Zahn's permission and his advice, right? All of it was approved by him. Filoni would have never done what he did with the character without the permission of Zahn. Just like Ahsoka is Filoni's baby, Thrawn is Zahn's. I don't think Disney would retcon the movies. They'll probably move into the past or future, but it'll certainly be sometime before they touch the Sequel Trilogy era again. Even the animated show set in that time ended pretty fast, leading to some people to think it wasn't a hit compared to Rebels and Clone Wars. Favreau is definitely more competent when it comes to creating Star Wars stories, it's why I assume he gets along really well with Filoni. Kathleen Kennedy is just good at managing Star Wars as a business, but the movies suffer whenever she starts to control the direction of the story and other aspects. It's why Solo bombed and why the Sequel Trilogy was so disorganized. She also selected mediocre directors instead of relying on more established ones. JJ for example, The Force Awakens was almost a copy of all three Original Trilogy movies put together, but at least it was good in establishing the new trilogy. After that Rian Johnson did his own thing and ignored it and the trilogy suffered, and then JJ tried to fix this and made things even worse. A big lack of communication and organization, and part of this blame can be put on KK. I definitely think Favreau is a better director. He did start the MCU with Iron Man after all. I think those rumors about George Lucas wanting to return are just wishful thinking. Lucas has moved on and while he disagrees with many choices KK and Disney have made, I don't think he'll make any new movies. The man is clearly enjoying his retirement, and I doubt he would want to get involved in Star Wars again other than to just offer his opinion and guidance. He did say that his original idea for a Sequel Trilogy would have been hated even more because he wanted to really explore the midi-chlorians and all that more weird stuff.

The Han Solo Trilogy covered the joint to the Academy and the meeting with Chewbacca. The story from books were more deep and good than the film. The film goes from bad to very very bad. Rebels tv serie has two stages. First two seasons are less violent than the last two. The first two is more as classic hero cartoon tv series where the good heroes always were invincible. Without count the final episode, the last two seasons are not bad for me. You look as if you had fallen in the hands of Disney sharing false news about how the Disney films were better because Lucas plans were different. It is as Trump saying how the Covi19 is not bad, the mask are not neccesary or any other negation from him this year......everything are false and from my point of view EEUU looks as a plagued country thanks to him. The same than Disney with Star Wars. They were selling us bad information about how Fans guided their hands but where? JJ Abrams does not use Twitter, the same with other sources, these guys have accounts but they do not write inside them. Anyway, I go to make what I like. Just it.

The film goes from bad to very very bad. Rebels tv serie has two stages. First two seasons are less violent than the last two. The first two is more as classic hero cartoon tv series where the good heroes always were invincible. Without count the final episode, the last two seasons are not bad for me. The movie was originally going to have sequels (maybe be a trilogy) and possibly cover more content from the books perhaps, but because it didn't do so well, we may never find out anymore. There are rumors of it turning into a show like how the Kenobi movie will be made into one, but nothing established so far. Hmm, I might be confusing the Han Solo books because I know there's The Han Solo Adventures (a trilogy) and then the Han Solo Trilogy (another trilogy which continues the events of the first one? I'm not sure). I got the information I said on Wikipedia, so I'm not sure if it's accurate, but the author's claim is sourced from an interview from 1997.
The author of the Han Solo Trilogy says how she "Per Lucasfilm's request, I did not cover Han's time in the Imperial Academy, or his first meeting with Chewbacca" The Rebels show definitely takes longer to get to the "good parts" compared to The Clone Wars, but it makes sense since the Rebellion is just barely starting and their forces are quite small. I like it since it reminds me of the Original Trilogy with a focus on a smaller amount of people and more development of the characters. They did get beaten by Darth Vader and the Inquisitors though, only Ahsoka was able to beat them and Maul killed pretty much all of them. Ahsoka couldn't defeat Darth Vader either. I agree that the later seasons are better, it starts to pick up as the Rebel Alliance forms against the Empire. The last episode is a bit controversial, but both the Jedi and Thrawn are alive as confirmed by Filoni, so it isn't so bad. JJ Abrams does not use Twitter, the same with other sources, these guys have accounts but they do not write inside them. Anyway, I go to make what I like. Just it. That wasn't from Disney though, those were the exact words from George Lucas himself. He said that on an interview on James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction, a show made by AMC. "[My sequel trilogy] was going to get into the microbiotic world. But there's this world of creatures that operate differently than we do. I call them the Whills. And the Whills are the one who actually control the universe. They feed off the Force .... Of course, a lot of the fans would have hated it, just like they did Phantom Menace and everything, but at least the whole story from beginning to end would be told." He says he could have made it, but I believe by that point he was tired and also upset at the negative reception to the Prequels and other things and that's probably what motivated him to sell Star Wars, at least partially possibly.

So what do people here think about the prequels? Do you think George Lucas ruined Star Wars by making them? Do you think they were good?

I believe that the work from George Lucas always were very good. Compared to others, he is the maker from everything. He understood the saga better than anyone.
Lately he have hear about a George Lucas cut from the episode ix, I would like watch it and the longer cut from JJ but I believe how all the story from the last trilogy can not be rescued. From the first moment that they showed us to Luke Skywalker as a complete failure, and Han Solo and Leia as two old divorced. The story was a failure.
Even lately, they speak about a Luke Skywalker film. It would be another failure. Because all the story about these characters from the last trilogy is a piece of shit.

So do you believe the prequels were objectively good because it was George's vision? If one were to separate one's appreciation for George from episodes I, II, and III do you still believe they hold up as good movies?

The prequels were great, they had everything which we have not seen in the last trilogy.
